They put skilled lactation support in a room where families already are\, free and drop-in\, with no appointment and no referral. The people who run them see what breaks first\, and they see it everywhere at once. \n  \nThis is an internal meeting of the Baby Cafe USA network and is not a public event. More than 45 counties and communities have since put it to work. \n  \nBreastfeeding Family Friendly Communities presents alongside NACCHO\, the Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Association in Michigan\, and the Augusta University Research Institute in Georgia. Three very different places\, applying the same framework\, learning different things. \n  \nWhat we will actually talk about is the unglamorous part: how you get a health department\, a community organization\, and a hospital to hand a family off to one another without dropping them. \n  \nOpen registration.

It is also one of the easiest for a community to leave entirely to individual mothers\, as though it were a private decision made in a private room. \n  \nThis session is about what changes when a whole community decides otherwise: when employers\, childcare\, healthcare\, and local government each take up the part of this that belongs to them. \n  \nCE/CME and IBLCE L-CERPs approved. DESCRIPTION:Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities provides technical assistance to the North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition as we pilot the implementation of the Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community. \nWhat we learned working in local municipalities is that there are some things a local community simply cannot do on its own. Some things have to be done at the state level. This meeting is where local advocates come together to do that work statewide. \nThis is the year end wrap up. Come see what actually moved in 2026 and help decide what we go after next.
