Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities

As we usher in the new year, Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities (BFFC) continues in our commitment to removing disparities in maternal and infant health and breast/chestfeeding. Thank you to all who have made 2022 a year of growth and celebration. We look forward to continuing this important work of fostering community-led breastfeeding family friendly communities and advocating for policies and practices to protect and promote the rights of all breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding families with you.

Brainstorming Session

You are invited to an informal brainstorming session on how to work with unsupportive systems.

Is there an institution in your community that you find challenging to work with? Are they critical to implementing a holistic breastfeeding family friendly community? You might have allies within this organization, but find it difficult to create institutional momentum around policies and systems to protect first food equity.

We welcome you to bring your coffee and ideas and even personal stories to share. Together, we will brainstorm solutions as advocates interested in supporting breastfeeding family friendly communities.

Celebrating our Childcare Videos

We want to take the time to celebrate our Breastfeeding Friendly Trainings! Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities, in collaboration with other communities in NC, provided these monthly webinars – Building Blocks of Breastfeeding Friendly Childcare Learning BurstsRecordings of the webinars are now available on our website!

Each month, we have been sharing one of the Breastfeeding Friendly Childcare videos with our community. Childcare providers are an important part of the community life for many families. We hope that these webinars will be a resource to providers as they offer the breastfeeding friendly childcare that families need to meet their infant feeding goals.

Breastfeeding Friendly Designation

Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities is a community-wide program to impact Health Equity by advocating for policies and practices that support optimal infant feeding. Any municipality or incorporated region may complete the Ten Steps self-appraisal. Work begins when two or more community members come together to lead the community in satisfying the requirements of the Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community.

Is your community interested in beginning the designation process to becoming a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community? Contact us for resources to help your community get started on the journey. Take the first step and fill out our interest form.

Get Started

Using the Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community (Ten Steps), we will provide education, mentorship, and assistance to communities as they work to make changes so that every family that is chest/breastfeeding will be able to do so in a space that is welcoming and supportive of their efforts. With your donation, these communities are able to engage with local businesses, child care centers, and health care providers to support breast/chestfeeding families.
