Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities

It's hard to believe that summer is almost here! We recognize the challenges and struggles you all have faced in advocating for the rights of breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding families in your communities. This summer, we hope that you can continue informing, engaging, and motivating action to create strong community support and welcome families to meet their infant feeding goals. Remember, BFFC provides 3-5 hours of free technical assistance to communities working on breastfeeding friendly designations - please reach out with any questions or even success stories! And this fall, plan to join the After Party to restore and renew your efforts along with other community partners. More information below!

August is a significant month. It is World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7) and National Breastfeeding Month!  August represents the culmination of months of work done to foster community-led breastfeeding family friendly communities and advocate for policies and practices that protect the rights of all breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding families. This is the time to use our collective power and impact to support equity and justice in birthing, breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding in our communities, nationally and globally.

Save the Date: "After-Party" in September

Join Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities for a Virtual After-Party!

After the National Breastfeeding Month celebrations...after the focused education and awareness-building...after the events...after the social media posts...after the proclamations…
we invite you to an After-Party!!

Community-based breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding advocacy can be overwhelming and challenging. We hear you!

We hope that we can support each other and restore energy together. Let's keep the 2023 National Breastfeeding Month theme going to renew our commitment and motivation by remembering “This Is Our Why" in September!

Celebrating National Breastfeeding Month? Let's Count the Ways!

As we anticipate August -- and World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month -- we focus on ways to build awareness, educate, and especially celebrate! In the next few months, there will be excitement and amping up to organize, advocate, and celebrate National Breastfeeding Month to inspire conversation and action for policy and practice changes within our communities to support babies and families in their breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human milk feeding journeys.

We would love to hear from you! Please share with us how you're planning to celebrate National Breastfeeding Month. How are you celebrating and engaging in your community? What events are you organizing? We can collectively highlight, lift up, and celebrate the hard work and efforts of our community partners and breastfeeding advocates across the world.

Breastfeeding Friendly Designation

Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities is a community-wide program to impact Health Equity by advocating for policies and practices that support optimal infant feeding. Any municipality or incorporated region may complete the Ten Steps Approaches and Measures. Work begins when two or more community members come together to lead the community in satisfying the requirements of the Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community.

Is your community interested in beginning the designation process to becoming a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community? Contact us for resources to help your community get started on the journey. Take the first step and fill out the Interest Form.

Get Started

Using the Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community (Ten Steps), we will provide education, mentorship, and assistance to communities as they work to make changes so that every family that is chest/breastfeeding will be able to do so in a space that is welcoming and supportive of their efforts. With your donation, these communities are able to engage with local businesses, child care centers, and health care providers to support breast/chestfeeding families.
