Named a NACCHO Blueprint Peer Ambassador |
|
NACCHO — the voice of the country's 3,300+ local health departments — has awarded $60,000 to three organizations serving as Blueprint Peer Ambassadors, helping local health departments put the Continuity of Care in Breastfeeding Support Blueprint into practice. We're honored that Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities was named alongside the Augusta University Research Institute (Augusta, GA) and the Black Mothers' Breastfeeding Association (Detroit, MI) — each bringing community-driven models, clinical–community linkages, and cross-sector partnerships to the work. Together, the ambassadors support health departments across the country through NACCHO's Strengthening Breastfeeding Initiatives Community of Practice, focused on workforce capacity, sustainable partnerships, and community-centered planning. |

Fully Fund WIC — Senate action alert |
|
Unless immediate action by Congress is taken, WIC will experience a funding shortfall which will lead to many women and children being waitlisted for the program and/or their benefits being cut. So far both the House and Senate have failed to provide enough funding for WIC to protect eligible women and children who apply for WIC. |

Pull the thread that’s yours.
If reading is all you do this month, that counts. And if one of these stories tugs at you — enough to share it, or to ask one workplace, clinic, church, or childcare center near you for a lactation space — follow it. That’s a stitch.
One thread at a time is how a cape gets woven. |

Breastfeeding Friendly Designation
|
| |
|
Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities is a community-wide program to impact Health Equity by advocating for policies and practices that support optimal infant feeding. Any municipality or incorporated region may complete the Ten Steps self-appraisal. Work begins when two or more community members come together to lead the community in satisfying the requirements of the Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community.
Is your community interested in beginning the designation process to becoming a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community? Contact us for resources to help your community get started on the journey. Take the first step and fill out our interest form. |

Using the Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community (Ten Steps), we will provide education, mentorship, and assistance to communities as they work to make changes so that every family that is chest/breastfeeding will be able to do so in a space that is welcoming and supportive of their efforts. With your donation, these communities are able to engage with local businesses, child care centers, and health care providers to support breast/chestfeeding families.
