Scotland County – Human Milk Feeding: A Community Endeavor

In partnership with Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities, Scotland County, North Carolina, recognizes and values every feeding journey. Whether it’s breastfeeding, chestfeeding, or expressing, every method is celebrated here.

Current Highlights:

  1. Heat Alert Campaign: Aiming to educate lactating individuals on the crucial importance of hydration, especially during hot periods.
  2. Collaboration with WHO: Focused on understanding a child’s feeding cues, ensuring every signal is met with the right response.
  3. Childhood Cancer Month Campaign: Highlighting the benefits of human milk feeding for vulnerable groups, especially children facing health challenges.

Community Achievements:

  • All public schools and the Board of Education in Scotland County now have lactation spaces for teachers and staff, totaling 19 dedicated spaces.
  • Lactation spaces have been established in the largest superstore in both Hoke County and Scotland County.
  • The introduction of a Doula Program in Scotland County.
  • Comprehensive training was provided to the Scotland County Health Department staff during Black Breastfeeding Week by the ICO4MCH Breastfeeding Program Coordinator.
