We’re elated to shine a spotlight on Queens, New York, for achieving the status of our most recent Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community. Whether you’ve been part of our journey from the beginning or are a recent ally, it’s essential to acknowledge the significance of this monumental step.
Our initial introduction to the powerhouse that is Charline Ogbeni was at the United Breastfeeding Conference in June. Since then, Charline and the team have been passionately forging ahead to build a robust coalition in Queens.
In a few short months, BFFC Queens showcased its commitment to inclusive support by hosting a tabletop event, uniting 40 chest/breastfeeding support organizations. More than a mere gathering, this event was a testament to the community’s dedication to parents and their infants. The presence of their state representatives and the WIC office was a testament to its significance.
Perhaps one of the most heartwarming initiatives has been the coalition’s partnership with the local Queens library. Thanks to their efforts, the library now offers a breastfeeding-friendly environment. This sanctuary emphasizes the importance of community backing, giving all parents a peaceful space to nurse and bond with their children.
But the strides don’t stop there! The coalition, steered by Charline, has been actively engaging with childcare providers across Queens. Their mission? To ensure every childcare establishment respects, understands, and supports the rights and needs of chest/breastfeeding parents.
Beyond Queens, Charline’s advocacy is making waves. By joining the state breastfeeding coalition, she serves as a bridge, uniting voices, forging ties, and ensuring that the needs and rights of every breastfeeding parent are acknowledged.
Queens, renowned for its diverse tapestry of cultures, traditions, and ideas, is now also a beacon for breastfeeding advocacy. It emphasizes the paramount importance of communal backing for parents and their little ones.
Our heartfelt congratulations to Charline and the entire community of Queens on this splendid accomplishment. Collectively, we’re working towards a world where every parent feels supported, every infant feels nurtured, and every community witnesses the strength of togetherness.
