The American Academy of Pediatrics has released a new policy statement outlining how pediatricians and health care systems can confront implicit bias, interpersonal microaggressions, and structural racism to advance lactation equity. The first strategy it names is partnership with community health workers. That is the premise the entire Breastfeeding Family Friendly Communities framework rests on. Community health workers and health educators are the center of this model, not an add on to it, and a core aim of the framework is training clinicians to think the way community health workers think. To see that named in national pediatric policy is significant for every coalition doing this work. Read the full policy statement.
