Northeast NC Breastfeeding Coalition

The Northeast NC Breastfeeding Coalition is a partnership of healthcare providers, community advocates, and families working to create a welcoming, supportive environment for breastfeeding and human milk feeding in Northeast North Carolina. Covering eight counties—Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Hertford, Pasquotank, and Perquimans—the coalition is at the beginning of its journey to implement the Ten Steps to a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community. Together, we envision a region where every family can access culturally competent support, breastfeeding-friendly workplaces, and community spaces that celebrate and normalize breastfeeding.

Our Journey Toward the Ten Steps

We are currently laying the foundation for change by:
✔️ Building partnerships with local leaders, healthcare systems, and businesses.
✔️ Raising awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding for families and communities.
✔️ Mapping available resources and identifying gaps in services.

This is the start of a long-term effort to promote equity and health throughout Northeast North Carolina.
