If you have North Carolina Medicaid, your health plan is supposed to offer more than the basics. Those “extras” are called value-added benefits — things like breast pumps, baby-related supplies, and other supports that can make a real difference in the early months. On paper, they’re a promise. In practice, families tell us the same thing again and again: actually getting them can be confusing, slow, or quietly impossible.
That gap is worth documenting — and there’s now an easy way to do it.
Nurture NC, a statewide maternal and infant health organization, has created a short survey to collect families’ real experiences with value-added benefits. It takes about two minutes. It asks which plan you have and what happened when you tried to use a benefit. Nurture NC then shares that feedback directly with the health plans to push for improvements.
